Zones Update: Travel and 1st Day of Competition

From Head Zone Coach Jimmy Smith:

Monday - the day of travel!

The 2012 SC zone team departed Columbia for Atlanta.  During the trip the athletes and the coaches all had an opportunity to get to know each other.  About halfway through the trip, an impromptu edition of South Carolina swimmers have talent (or not!!!) took place.

Several 11-12 year olds did a rendition of Justin "what's a " Bieber's "boyfriend."  Following the 11-12 year olds, the 13-14 year olds did "call me baby."  No one did!!!  And finally, the senior boys graced us all with "silent night."  We could only wish they had stayed silent!

It was great fun nonetheless!

We finally reached the airport, where after a little confusion, all the bags were checked just fine.  The trip from Dallas-FT worth airport was smooth and easy.  However, everyone notice how H-O-T it was.  Only about 105 degrees, but no humidity.  It’s a dry heat!

Tuesday, July 31st:  Day 1 of Competition -

Travis Morrin started the meet off for South Carolina with a win in

The 1500 free!  Travis' time of 16:12 was also a new USA LCM Junior Cut!

Next were Logan Kraft and Annie Hope Mazzola in the 13-14 800 free.

Logan placed 9th overall with 9:29.7 (just over her best) and Annie

Hope was 15th with a personal best 9:36.49.

Laura Ann Dixon finished 17th in the senior 800 free, 9:49.7.  Laura

Ann was just about 1 second over her best.

Completing the first night of competition was David Sweezer in the

13-14 1500 free, placing 7th with a 16:51.0.

At the end of day 1, South Carolina swimming is tied for 4th with

Florida Gold Coast.  Stay tuned for more results as they occur.
