Zones Update Day 2

Wednesday, August 1st:  Day 2 of Zones, from Rockwall, TX—From Head Zone Coach, Jimmy Smith

Today began as yesterday ended... hot!  The weather was for sunny skies and temps at 107 degrees!  As for competition, the long travel day on Monday and getting settled on Tuesday kinda caught up to the swimmers, particularly with a 6:00am wake-up for warm-up.  Many of the swimmers achieved times in prelims which were faster than their prelim times from the SCS state meet.

Those swimmers returning for finals included Jonathan Boland, Elaine Zhou, Nathan Delahunty and Izzi Woodard.

Nathan Delahunty bested his time in the 200 free, going 1:58.8 and a 5th place.  Later in the evening, Nathan lit up things in the 200 breast in 2:30.1 and 3rd place.  Elaine Zhou raced the 200 breast to 8th place in a time of 2:52.5.  Elaine then competed in the 100 fly, finishing 8th with 1:06.9.  Izzi Woodard also swam the 200 breast, finishing 8th with a 2:47.3.  Jonathan Boland competed in the 100 fly and a personal best of :57.5.  This beat his best from prelims which 57.9.  Jonathan finished 4th.

SCS competed in all medley relays as well.  11-12 girls were 10th with 4:51.9 - Madeline Reilly, Emma Waters, Makenzie Blaakman and Carter Marchbanks.  11-12 boys were 9th in 4:45.4 - Emerson DeFoor, Jonathan Frye, Greg Reed and Campbell Smith.  13-14 girls placed 5th in 4:37.8 - Lilly Anderson, Elaine Zhou, Jessie Snover and Savannah Gaido.  13-14 boys placed 5th in 4:13.5 - Colin Kemp, Nathan Delahunty, John Kelly and David Sweezer.  15-18 girls placed 7th in 4:39.5 - Caty Hueske, Izzi Woodard, Laura Ann Dixon and Megan Charnovich.  15-18 boys placed 5th in 4:06.7 - Travis Morrin, Ben Spinek, Jonathan Boland and Walker Harwell.

SCS is in 8th place with 57 points, just 19 points behind 7th place South Texas.  The goal is to join our south eastern brethren in the top-7.

Tomorrow looks to be a long day, with the prelim session ending near 2:00pm.  the swimmers do have the later warm-up so they should get some good rest despite getting back to the hotel at almost 10:00pm and lights out at 10:30pm on Wednesday.
