With the start of the 2012-2013 season upon us, we wanted to remind you of two Safe Sport programs that are especially timely at the start of the year.  Please distribute widely to your LSC membership, post the links below on your Zone/LSC website, and promote locally.  Thank you for your commitment to Safe Sport!

Pre-Employment Screening

 

Clubs are responsible for hiring and supervising their own coaches and staff, and managing their own volunteers. Responsible and thorough hiring practices are critical to maintaining a safe and healthy training environment for our members.

 

The pre-employment screening program requires clubs to conduct three required screens prior to offering employment to any potential employee. The three screens are (1) past employment reference checks; (2) verify the highest held level of education; (3) acquire a state motor vehicle report. Clubs are also encouraged to complete two option screens: (1) social network search; and (2) Google media search.

Parent Education

The USA Swimming Safe Sport program offers FREE parent education for our membership.   The course is online and takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.  We have had overwhelmingly positive reviews from those who have taken it but there are many more parents out there who should have this important information – please share the link below with your membership, post it to your website, and promote it at your LSC meetings.  We are all responsible for making sure our children are safe in swimming!
